How to Sleep Well

Today is World Sleep Day!

Quality sleep is essential to good health as it allows your body & mind to recover. This is why we created our Sleep Well Collection.

1. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on your days off. Regular habits are your body’s best friend. Adults need between 7-9 hours per night.

2. Dim the lights

Your body naturally feels more awake during the daylight hours and sleepy at night when the sun goes down – this is your natural circadian rhythm. Today we are busier than ever and adopting a ‘wake up with the sun’ approach is not realistic. Plus, in the winter it gets dark by 5pm! You can mimic this 24-hour clock by simply turning on the lights when you want to wake up and dimming them when you are ready to wind down for bed.

3. Remove electronics

Stop using all electronics 1-2 hours before bed. Electronics mess with your sleep in so many ways, namely the artificial blue light that increases your alertness and stops the production of sleep-inducing melatonin, making it more difficult to fall asleep. Try leaving your phone out of the room you sleep in, and switching to a digital alarm clock in order to wake up in the morning. These steps will promote a better, less disrupted sleep. Give it a try!

4. Healthy diet & exercise

You’ve heard it before – but it makes all the difference! Diet, sleep, and exercise are the ultimate triple threat working together towards your best health. Caffeine, alcohol, sugar, processed foods, and a lack of exercise all negatively affect our sleep and create a vicious cycle where we reach for substances like coffee or sugar to get us through the day, which in turn lessens the quality of our sleep making us more tired. If you are a coffee drinker - stop drinking caffeine at least 7 hours before bed to prevent its sleep-disrupting effects. Be mindful of when you exercise, as working out right before bed can wake you up and lead to difficulty falling asleep.

5. Bedtime routine

Adopt new practices that make getting ready for bed something to look forward to. Turn on soft music, take a bath, brew a cup of herbal tea, or try out some new soothing body products. Our 100% Natural Sleep Well Collection is made with skin-nourishing ingredients like organic Argan and a luxurious blend of sleep-inducing essential oils like Chamomile, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Jasmine to help ease your mind and soothe your senses as you drift off into dreamland.
